Eva has been working at GT Stewart Solicitors since 2013. She specialises in both Civil Liberties and Criminal Defence. Eva strongly believes that people who have been abused, or accused of a crime, by the state have the right to legal advice and assistance. She is valued by her clients for her empathetic approach and her commitment to achieving the best possible outcomes for them.

Civil Liberties

Eva assists members of the public with complaints and / or civil claims for compensation against the police, prison service, and other detaining authorities. The claims she assists with include claims for assault & battery, false imprisonment, malicious prosecution, misfeasance in public office, negligence, trespass against property, discrimination, and claims under the Human Rights Act 1998 (particularly articles 2, 3, 5, and 8). She undertakes work in the Coroner’s court assisting family members of people who have died at the hands of the state – in prison, police custody, or after contact with police. She assists people with challenging decisions by public bodies using the Judicial Review procedure, for example, decisions by the Independent Office for Police Conduct (formerly Independent Police Complaints Commission), outcomes of DBS checks, and decisions by the police to retain DNA samples, fingerprints and custody photographs.

Criminal Defence

Eva represents clients at the police station and magistrates’ court. She has a particular interest in criminal proceedings where there has been a potential abuse of powers by the police. She recently represented a 21 year old client at Hendon Magistrates’ Court who was accused of a public order offence, assaulting police officers, and resisting arrest. He had no previous convictions. Eva successful argued that the officers were not acting in the execution of their duty when dealing with our client. The magistrates dismissed the case and our client was found not guilty of all offences.
